Privacy policy

Effective October 29, 2026

PALĀT is a wine tasting app. This policy explains what information the app and this website collect, why, who else handles it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, write to [email protected].

Who this is for

PALĀT is for adults 21 and over. The app asks you to confirm your age the first time you open it, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21. If you believe someone under 21 has used the app, contact us and we will delete their information.

What we collect

Account information

You can use PALĀT as a guest or create an account with an email address and password. Guests get an anonymous identifier. Accounts store your email address. Your password is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we cannot read it.

What you add to the app

Wines you log: names, producers, regions, vintages, ratings, notes, tasting selections, prices, venues, locations you enter, folders, and photos of labels. Your profile and your blind-tasting stats, such as scores, streaks, and badges.

Live rooms and events

If you join a live room, other people in that room can see your display name, role, guesses, and scores. If you host an event, the lineup you publish, your venue name, logo, Instagram handle, and any message you add appear on the event screen that guests see.

Camera and photos

The app uses your camera or photo library only when you choose to scan a label or add a photo. You can turn this off in your phone’s settings.

Information on your device

The app keeps some data in your device’s storage, such as your age confirmation, settings, and a local copy of your library, so it works smoothly and remembers your choices.

How we use it

  • To run the app: sign you in, save and sync your library, and run live rooms and events.
  • To provide AI features you ask for.
  • To answer your support requests and keep the service secure.

We do not sell your personal information. The app does not include third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

AI features

Some features send information to Google’s Gemini AI service so it can respond: label photos you scan, wine details you enter, your tasting notes, and questions you type. These power label autofill, tasting notes, price and location lookups, region guides, the AI sommelier, and feedback after a blind tasting. Google processes that information under its own terms. AI answers can be wrong.

Who else handles your information

PALĀT runs on Google Firebase, which provides sign-in, database storage, and cloud functions. We use these service providers to operate the app and do not share your information with others for their own marketing. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information and library until you delete them. You can delete your account in the app. That permanently removes your saved wines, profile, stats, and any events you hosted. Local data on your device can be cleared by deleting the app. Short-lived live-room data may remain for a limited time after a session ends.

Your choices and rights

You can view and edit what you have saved, delete your account in the app, or email us to ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or deletion. Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area, you may have additional rights over your personal information. We will respond to verified requests as the law requires.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with Google’s cloud services. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
